RUGBY ART GALLERY AND MUSEUM
Charlie Dark was commissioned by Rugby Art Gallery and Museum to create a new sound installation inspired by the region's landscape and communities.

With the new found environment opening up the constraints of his usual working practice, Dark described the sounds as having the “chance to breathe” in the countryside.

The sounds were collected on mini disc, tape recorder and mobile phone and recontextualised back in the studio. “The collected sounds became sonic postcards from Great Alne, audio memories and diary entries charting my year long involvement in the village.” Charlie Dark

Dark created the piece specifically for the space at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, the gallery was split into three rooms, referencing three musical movements.

QUOTES FROM THE VISITORS BOOK:
Fascinating - a truly unique experience. Great to see experimental work in the gallery.

Loved it - Another Country of the mind transported through sounds. It's very difficult to locate the sound source, they disappear as you walk towards them just like fog in the morning. The music feels adventurous, as if you closed your eyes you feel in the fantasy island.

Beautiful, tranquil and original - opportunity to use the ears rather than the eyes.

I ended up joining in with the birdsong.

Utterly absorbing and immersing.

Haunting.
